With Nico Williams all but confirming his stay at Athletic Club for next season, the spotlight in Catalonia now shifts to his compatriot Dani Olmo.
The RB Leipzig star has been a top target for the Blaugrana since his impressive performances at Euro 2024. In recent days, the club has intensified negotiations with the German side.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Olmo’s representatives would travel to Germany to finalize his transfer to Barcelona.
Deal Done
Barcelona’s sporting director Deco also made the trip to Germany for a meeting, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is nearly complete, with discussions progressing rapidly in the right direction.
In fact, the Italian journalist has given his trademark ‘here we go’ signal for the transfer.
Set to Return
Earlier today, Deco met with Olmo, his father, and his agents to discuss the terms of the proposal. Subsequently, he negotiated with the Leipzig management to finalize the agreement.
The finalized deal reportedly includes €55 million in fixed terms, plus an additional €7 million in challenging add-ons.
Olmo is poised to become Barcelona’s second signing of the summer, with a six-year contract extending until 2030. A verbal agreement is in place, and an official announcement is expected soon.
Over a decade after leaving Barcelona, Olmo appears set to return to his dream club. It remains to be seen if his arrival will impact the future of Ilkay Gundogan or any other midfielder.
