Asuman Basalirwa Steps Down: Reflections on Leadership and Future Prospects for Jeema

Asuman Basalirwa, Member of Parliament for Bugiri Municipality, has announced his resignation as President of the opposition party Justice Forum (Jeema) after 15 years in the leadership role. In an interview with news reporters, Basalirwa expressed his belief that it’s time for new leadership to bring fresh perspectives to the party. He highlighted Jeema’s unique ideological foundation and emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and values. Basalirwa’s main focus now is to ensure Jeema remains a parliamentary party, highlighting its significance in Uganda’s political landscape. Despite his achievements in keeping the party united and building a vibrant youth league, Basalirwa acknowledges the challenge of limited parliamentary representation and financial constraints. Kyamundu Ssentongo, a potential candidate for the party presidency, praised Basalirwa’s leadership and expressed confidence in Jeema’s future under new leadership.
