Uganda’s Junior Silverbacks Dominate Rwanda with Strong Third Quarter

First Half Struggles

Uganda’s Junior Silverbacks triumphed over Rwanda 78-49 in their second match of the FIBA Africa Zone V U18 Qualifiers at Lugogo on Monday.

The game began tensely, with Rwanda executing their plays more effectively. Uganda relied heavily on their defense, ending the first quarter trailing 15-11.

Second Quarter Turnaround

In the second quarter, Uganda shook off their nerves and intensified their offensive efforts. They played a faster-paced game, capitalizing on transitions and moving the ball well to create open shots.

Explosive Third Quarter

The third quarter showcased Uganda’s strategy at its best. The Junior Silverbacks exploded for 31 points, extending their lead to as much as 32 points. Key players Musiime Kagaba, Andrew Mukisa Nkugwa, and Richard Ssenyange, who returned after missing the opener against Tanzania, bolstered the team’s performance. They effectively supported Edrine Ekau, Gideon Ekukwai, and Tejan Rugette, who put Rwanda’s defense in foul trouble.

Sealing the Victory

In the fourth quarter, Uganda extended their lead to 38 points before easing off. Musiime led the team with 15 points, while Nkugwa added 14. Ekau and Ekukwai contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. For Rwanda, point guard Dylan Kayijuka matched Musiime’s game-high with 15 points, and Gabriel Ndiba Mwinba added 11.

With this dominant win, Uganda’s Junior Silverbacks showcased their potential and skill in the U18 Zone V Qualifiers.
