T-Mobile lands multi-year U.S. Navy contract

T-Mobile (TMUS.O) announced on Thursday that it has secured a contract worth $2.67 billion with the U.S. Navy under the Spiral 4 initiative. Over the next decade, T-Mobile will provide communication technology to Department of Defense agencies, allowing them to order wireless services and equipment from the company. This contract arrives amidst a challenging wireless market landscape characterized by sluggish growth and intense competition.

The contract encompasses voice, data, fixed wireless solutions, Internet of Things, mobility management solutions, and connectivity for government operations.

At midday, the company’s shares saw a slight increase.

In 2017, T-Mobile, along with Verizon Communications and AT&T (T.N), secured the five-year Spiral 3 contract worth $994 million.

Recently, Echostar (SATS.O), Verizon (VZ.N), and Wide Point announced their inclusion among companies awarded positions in the $2.67 billion contract.

T-Mobile also noted that government agencies can utilize its partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX. In January, SpaceX launched Starlink satellites equipped with direct-to-cell technology, complemented by T-Mobile’s wireless network services.
