Veteran musician and video director Viboyo recently reminisced about a missed opportunity to feature in the legendary “Millennium” song video, which included Bobi Wine and other prominent stars. He recalled how they would diligently rehearse near Nile Breweries, hoping to catch the attention of the recording artists. Despite their efforts, they remained unnoticed as the stars recorded the song.
When Viboyo and Bobi Wine learned of the video shoot schedule, they arrived at the National Theatre early in the morning, eager for their chance. However, they arrived late, missing the contingent that had already departed for Resort Beach in Entebbe. Undeterred, they quickly boarded a taxi and made their way to the beach, determined to participate.
Dressed in new outfits acquired from overseas, Viboyo and Bobi Wine arrived at the recording location with optimism. However, Steve Jean, the video’s producer, decided against their participation, despite their impressive attire. Kid Fox, a fellow artist in the song, attempted to intercede on their behalf but was unsuccessful. Steve Jean insisted they were “too smart” to appear in the video.
Reflecting on the experience, Viboyo expressed his disappointment at missing the chance to be part of such a significant project. The “Millennium” song remains a cherished memory for Ugandan music enthusiasts, and Viboyo’s anecdote highlights the challenges and aspirations of aspiring artists during that era.
