The Ugandan football community received devastating news this afternoon regarding the sudden passing of coach Fred Kajoba. Kajoba, a key member of Micho’s coaching staff, played a pivotal role in Uganda’s historic qualification for the AFCON finals in Gabon 2017, breaking a 38-year drought. This achievement came after defeating Comoros at Mandela National Stadium.
Before his coaching career, Kajoba showcased his skills as a player for the national team, Coffee FC, and Simba FC. He later transitioned into coaching, leading teams like Soltilo Bright Stars and Vipers SC.
At the time of his passing, Kajoba was collaborating with coach Matia Lule at Tanzania’s Ihefu FC. According to senior sports journalist Ruben Luyombo, Kajoba felt unwell the previous night and sought medical attention with Lule. Despite initial checks at the hospital, Kajoba’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he tragically passed away shortly after Lule had to leave for a league match.
