In a dazzling display of skill and sportsmanship, the 6th edition of the Absa sponsored Captain’s Bell Tournament unfolded over the weekend, crowning Paul Charles Rukundo as Captain and Jerry Owachi as Vice Captain amidst a gathering of over 220 golf enthusiasts at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante.

Absa, the event’s official sponsor, elevated the stakes by doubling the cash prizes, totaling a remarkable Sh20 million for the professional winners. This bold move underscores Absa’s unwavering dedication to nurturing top-tier golfing talent and fostering a fiercely competitive environment within the sport.

Perez Muhwezi and Rose Azuba emerged as the triumphant champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. Notably, Ronald Rugumayo clinched the overall victory, securing a staggering Sh10 million prize, with an additional Sh10 million distributed among eleven other deserving professionals.

During the prize-giving ceremony and the delightful 19th hole experience facilitated by Absa, Managing Director Mumba Kalifungwa expressed the bank’s pride in supporting this esteemed golfing tradition.

“For Absa, the Captain’s Bell Tournament transcends mere competition; it embodies community. Our partnership reflects our commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a sense of unity. By augmenting the prize money, we aim to enrich the experience for all participants, reinforcing our dedication to excellence,” remarked Kalifungwa.

In his inaugural address, newly appointed Captain Paul Charles Rukundo pledged to steer the course of both the sport and its players towards unprecedented growth.

“For over seven decades, the Captain’s Bell tournament has served as a beacon, uniting exceptional players and fostering camaraderie. With the steadfast support of partners like Absa Bank Uganda, our community has thrived, and we are poised to chart new horizons,” Rukundo affirmed.

Echoing this sentiment, Mumba reiterated Absa’s commitment to shaping the narrative of golf in Uganda.

“We firmly believe in the transformative power of events like the Captain’s Bell Tournament.
