The Traffic Directorate of the Uganda Police Force has been urged to initiate an operation targeting the noise pollution generated by Subaru drivers within the city.

In a petition addressed to the Police Director of Traffic, Lawrence Nuwabiine, the call was made to enforce regulations against drivers who remove mufflers from their vehicles, a common practice among Subaru drivers.

This petition, authored by concerned citizen Innocent Ainebyoona on Friday, highlights the violation of Article 39 of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda, which guarantees every Ugandan the right to a clean and healthy environment.

Ainebyoona’s letter cites numerous instances of excessive noise, particularly from Subaru vehicles, occurring not only during daytime but also at night. He notes that while most vehicles are designed to operate quietly, some operators install aftermarket mufflers to amplify noise.

Copied to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Ainebyoona’s petition implores the Police to take necessary measures to address the noise pollution and restore tranquility to the public.

He urges prompt action to resolve the issue and prevent further disturbances to the community.

Additionally, Subaru drivers in Uganda, organized under the “Forester Nation” association, have gained attention for their philanthropic endeavors, but have also faced criticism for reckless driving and disruptive convoy activities, both domestically and across borders.
