Bayern Munich have officially signed French winger Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, as announced on Sunday. According to German magazine Kicker, Bayern paid a release clause of 70 million euros ($75 million) to secure Olise on a five-year contract until 2029. The 22-year-old completed his medical in Munich on Sunday.
Olise expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “It’s a great challenge, and that’s exactly what I was looking for. I want to prove myself at this level and play my part in ensuring that we win as many titles as possible with our team in the coming years.”
Born in London, Olise has represented France’s youth teams and is set to play for Les Bleus under coach Thierry Henry at the Paris Olympics in August. Last season, he scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 19 Premier League games for Crystal Palace.
Olise is Bayern’s second major signing of the summer, following the arrival of Japanese defender Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart. Bayern Munich finished third in the Bundesliga last season, behind champions Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart, ending an 11-year streak of consecutive titles.
Bayern struggled for goals last season, with Harry Kane being the standout performer, scoring 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga games. Jamal Musiala was the only other player to reach double figures, with 10 goals.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl commented, “We want new impetus in our team, new energy, new ideas – that’s what players like Michael Olise stand for. We’re very much looking forward to having him here. He will enrich our game.”
In addition to Olise, Bayern are reportedly close to finalizing a deal for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, with Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah and RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons also on their radar.
