Former Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, expressed that Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface could have significantly impacted the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations if not for an injury.

Boniface was highly anticipated to perform well at the tournament, with Peseiro planning to use a system that would pair the Germany-based forward with Victor Osimhen up front.
Peseiro has since parted ways with the Super Eagles after contract renewal negotiations with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) broke down.He had led Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were defeated by the host nation, Ivory Coast.

“He was very confident and could comfortably play in our two-man attacking style. He could also operate on both sides of the strikers, making him a crucial element for us in the tournament.”His absence limited our options to refine our style.”
