The Eastern Africa Grain Council has announced that the 12th edition of its agribusiness expo will take place on June 28 and 29 in Masindi.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Gerald Masila, the EAGC Executive Director, stated that the expo would be hosted at the Kihonda Demonstration Centre in Masindi District, Uganda.

“As the EAGC continues to facilitate grain trade in the region, we are dedicated to collaborating with the government to open regional markets for Uganda’s exports. Strengthening Uganda’s food systems is crucial for achieving rapid sustenance,” Masila said.

“The expo aims to promote sustainable food systems and climate-smart agriculture by bringing together stakeholders from the agribusiness, finance, and manufacturing sectors.”

Masila highlighted that the event, themed “Promoting sustainable food systems and climate-smart agriculture for inclusive trade and wealth creation,” will feature crop demonstrations, livestock displays, machinery exhibitions, and business-to-business meetings. He noted that at least 3,000 farmers and other stakeholders are expected to attend the two-day event.

Masindi LC5 chairperson, Cosmos Byaruhanga, expressed his support for the agribusiness expo in his district.

“The expo aligns with our efforts to position Masindi District within the East African markets and beyond. As a leading agricultural district specializing in food and livestock production and being the largest maize producer in the country with an annual output of approximately 21,000 metric tons, this event presents a significant opportunity for us,” he said.

Emmanuel Asiimwe, the country director of the East African Grain Council, mentioned that the expo has been expanded this year.

“This year, we have broadened our reach by attracting farmers from regions such as the Bunyoro-Kitara subregion, West Nile, Teso, Acholi, and Lango subregion. Our goal is to improve food systems and ensure greater productivity and sustainability across these regions,” he said.
