The Entebbe Municipal Council will shut down all weekly open-air markets, commonly referred to as “kabubbu,” starting July 1st.
Mayor Fabrice Rulinda announced this significant decision, highlighting the necessity to bolster the primary markets that contribute monthly dues to the municipal council.
“The council has resolved to close all weekly open-air markets, with the exception of the one in Kitooro,” stated Mayor Rulinda.
“We have found that these open-air markets and mobile delivery vans are adversely affecting the business performance of our main markets, which are vital to the local economy,” he continued.
In addition to closing the flea markets, mobile delivery vans or trucks selling food will also be prohibited.
“These mobile vendors will have their vehicles impounded and the owners charged accordingly,” Rulinda cautioned.
