The standout players of the 2023/24 Pepsi University Football League were honored at an awards gala on Tuesday at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo. AUUS president Penninah Kabenge and other executive officials attended the event.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) midfielder Geoffrey Gagganga clinched the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title for his stellar performance throughout the season. Gagganga’s contributions were pivotal in UCU’s journey to the finals, where they were narrowly defeated 3-1 by Nkumba University. His excellence on the field also earned him the Best Midfielder award and a spot in the league’s Best XI.

Following his impressive final season in the University League, Gagganga is now setting his sights on advancing to the topflight division.

Other notable awards included Nkumba University’s Obwana John Andrew as Best Goalkeeper and Lubega Ismail as Best Defender. Nkumba’s head coach, Sulaiman Bbosa, received the Coach of the Season award.

– Rookie Player of the Season:Muzoora Alleluyah (Kabale University)

– Best Goalkeeper: Obwana John Andrew (Nkumba University)

– Best Defender: Lubega Ismail (Nkumba University)

– Top Scorer: Ssentongo Akbar (UMU)

– Best Sports Tutor: Lukaire Samuel (UCU)

– Defenders:Lubega Ismail (Nkumba), Kitabalwa Robert (UMU), Alijole Godfrey (UCU), Abura Micheal (St Lawrence)

– Midfielders: Gagganga Geoffrey (UCU), Ssewankambo Kennedy (Nkumba), Munir Sudhir bin Saidi (MUBs)

– Forwards: Ssenyunja Isaac (Bugema), Ssentongo Akbar (UMU), Ofoyirwoth Isaac (UCU)
