Three Dead in Head-On Collision Between Minibus and Fuso Truck at Abutadi Trading Centre

The accident at Abutadi Trading Centre involved a minibus Coaster with registration UBL 851Z and a Fuso truck with registration UBA 200J. Allegedly, the Fuso driver, who was speeding, lost control and collided head-on with the Coaster, resulting in three fatalities at the scene.

The Coaster, owned by Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery, was transporting Lango Province football players from Dokolo town to Lira City. The Fuso, carrying passengers returning from a traditional marriage ceremony, was heading towards Dokolo.

The deceased have been identified as 5-year-old Anuari Musafiri Suwedi and 9-year-old Suhaila Musafiri Suwed, who were with their father to watch a football match between the Lango Province team and Dokolo Select Team. The identity of the third victim is yet to be confirmed.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the police spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, reported that several passengers from both vehicles sustained serious injuries and were taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment.

“The accident scene was promptly attended by the Division Police Commander (DPC) of Lira-City East and the Division Traffic Officer of Lira-City Central Police Station (CPS),” Okema said. “The deceased have been transported to the mortuary at Lira Regional Referral Hospital for post-mortem examinations.”

The Fuso driver, believed to have caused the accident, surrendered at Kaberamaido Police Station, approximately 70km from the accident site. He is now in custody and will be transferred to Lira City CPS for further questioning and to assist with the ongoing investigation. The minibus driver is receiving medical treatment at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was due to reckless driving by the Fuso driver. Okema urged all drivers and road users to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents.
