HESFB Announces Call for Students’ Loan Applications for Academic Year 2024/2025

What you need to know:

  • HESFB invites applications for study loans under the Student Loan Scheme from eligible Ugandan students admitted to their first year in the listed undergraduate diploma and degree programs for the Academic Year 2024/2025.
  • Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable loan processing fee of UGX 53,000 to the designated HESFB LOAN APPLICATION FEE accounts at Centenary Bank or DFCU Bank.

The Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB), pursuant to its mandate under the Higher Education Students Financing Act, No. 2 of 2014, continues its commitment to facilitating access to higher education in Uganda. In line with this mission, HESFB is pleased to announce the commencement of the application process for study loans for the Academic Year 2024/2025.

Background

Established as a body corporate, HESFB aims to provide financial assistance to Ugandan students pursuing higher education. The Student Loan Scheme is designed to support deserving students who face financial constraints in accessing higher education opportunities.

Objectives of the Students’ Financing Scheme:

  • Increase equitable access to higher education in Uganda.
  • Support highly qualified students who lack financial means.
  • Foster the development of critical programs for national advancement.
  • Ensure regional balance in higher education services.
  • Establish a revolving fund to sustain the scheme.

Call for Students’ Loan Applications for Academic Year 2024/2025

HESFB invites applications for study loans under the Student Loan Scheme from eligible Ugandan students admitted to their first year in the listed undergraduate diploma and degree programs for the Academic Year 2024/2025. This call extends to students enrolled in Public Universities, Private Chartered Universities, and other tertiary institutions.

The application period will commence on Monday, 4th March 2024, and the deadline for submission is extended to Friday, 31st July 2024.

Students’ Loan Coverage:

The student loan covers tuition fees, functional fees, aids, and appliances for persons with disabilities. Research funds may be covered subject to budget availability. These loans are exclusively awarded to students joining higher education institutions in their first year, pursuing undergraduate diploma and degree programs.

How to Apply:

The application process is conducted entirely online through the HESFB website: www.hesfb.go.ug/ApplyNow. Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable loan processing fee of UGX 53,000 to the designated HESFB LOAN APPLICATION FEE accounts at Centenary Bank or DFCU Bank. Payment receipts must be scanned and attached during the application process.

Requirements:

  • Admission letter from the participating higher education institution
  • National ID copy of the applicant
  • National ID copies of parents
  • Death certificate copies (if parents are deceased)
  • Academic certificates or result slips and transcripts
  • Birth certificate copy
  • Recent passport photo
  • Proof of payment of the non-refundable loan processing fee
  • Sketch maps to the applicant’s current address/residence and home of origin (if different)
