Ice Spice is addressing her relationship with Nicki Minaj following their recent collaborations on “Barbie World” and “Princess Diana” in 2023. Despite working together on these hit tracks, the “In Ha Mood” rapper shared with Rolling Stone that she and Minaj aren’t particularly close but maintain a positive rapport.

“We don’t have the closest relationship, but we’re definitely good,” said Ice Spice, 24. “We’re mutuals. We’ve had smash records together. I love our collaborations, and I think the world does too.”

Earlier this year, speculation about a possible rift between the two artists arose after a former close friend of Ice’s leaked messages in which she expressed frustration with Minaj over their Barbie soundtrack song. Ice Spice reflected on the situation, saying, “The saddest part is that someone I trusted and called my friend took advantage of that for her own benefit. It was disheartening to feel used.”

Regarding Minaj, Ice noted, “Nicki is incredibly busy and probably doesn’t focus on things like this coming from me.” She clarified that her previous comments were made out of frustration during contract negotiations and acknowledged, “Regardless of how I felt at the time, I still respect Nicki as an artist and admire everything she’s done for me and the culture.”

In a February appearance on Today with Hoda & Jenna, Ice expressed her gratitude for working with Minaj. “It was unreal. I never imagined getting a feature from her, let alone two. I’m so grateful. Shoutout to Queen.”

Ice also addressed rumors regarding her song “Think U the S— (Fart)” and its perceived reference to Latto. When Latto’s friends gifted her a poop-shaped cake after headlining a concert, Ice Spice felt the gesture was a way of dragging out a joke. “I feel like if we ever spoke, there wouldn’t be any issue,” she said. “It’s just a joke that’s been extended too far. It’s kind of flattering that it’s made about me, but it’s also a bit overdone.”

As Ice Spice prepares to release her debut album Y2K! on July 26, she revealed to Rolling Stone that she aimed to explore new sounds and embrace Y2K aesthetics. “I love the Y2K style and how people dressed back then,” she said. “That’s just my vibe. I’d describe it as very cool.”
