Social media users have rallied to defend J. Cole amid criticism of his latest collaboration. The rapper behind “No Role Modelz” found support against detractors of his verses on “Grippy,” a track he crafted alongside Cash Cobain.

On Friday, May 23, the 39-year-old hip-hop artist sparked discussions on X, formerly known as Twitter. Many users shared their opinions on his verses on “Grippy,” a collaborative track with Cash.

One user expressed, “1. I need to hear how he delivers these lines with the flow and all, because you can screenshot many lyrics and they might look bad on paper. 2. He’s on topic, so let’s not overreact.” Another user remarked, “[Kendrick Lamar] fans must be the most dull individuals in all of humanity. Not every song has to decode the Da Vinci Code while playing Mozart’s Symphony #40 in the background.”

These comments arose amidst perceptions of J. Cole experiencing a decline post his feud with Kendrick Lamar. Critics were quick to scrutinize his lyrics on “Grippy,” with one remarking, “Cole, what happened after you dropped ‘7 minute drill,’ man? You didn’t need to take ‘the fall off’ like that.”
