Janet Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, , is among the many Ugandans who believe the Uganda Cranes can still qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

Despite a 2-1 loss to Algeria at Namboole on Monday, the Uganda Cranes still have a chance to earn 18 points from the remaining six qualifying matches, which will resume in March next year.

“Last evening, I joined thousands of football fans to support the Uganda Cranes in their match against Algeria in the World Cup qualifiers. “I thank the thousands of fans who came to support the team and those who watched from afar. The 12th man is always crucial for the team, and we should maintain this spirit and resilience for our national teams,” she added.

The Cranes and their fans were hopeful after a 1-0 victory against Botswana on Friday. However, their joy was short-lived following the defeat, leaving them with six points from four matches in Group G, which includes Algeria, Mozambique, Botswana, Guinea, Somalia, and Uganda.

Following the latest qualifiers, Algeria and Mozambique both lead the group with nine points each, with Algeria ahead on goal difference (4). Botswana, Guinea, and Uganda each have six points, while Somalia remains at zero points from four games played by each team.
