Kawempe Muslim’s trophy collection remains incomplete without the FUFA Women’s Cup. Despite recently clinching the FUFA Women Super League title, they were knocked out in the early stages of the FUFA Women’s Cup, losing 5-4 in a penalty shootout to Byafaayo Queens (Amus College) at the Valley Ground.
The match ended goalless, leading to a penalty shootout where Hadijah Babirye’s miss resulted in Kawempe’s exit in the round of 16. This setback came just four days after Ayub Khalifa’s team celebrated their league championship.
This marks the fifth time Kawempe has failed to secure the knockout tournament title. Their struggles began in 2017 when they were ousted by Muteesa I Royal University 1-0 in the quarterfinals. The following year, She Corporate eliminated them in the quarterfinals through penalties after a goalless draw.
In 2019, Olila High School defeated Kawempe 2-0 in the round of 16. Last season, Uganda Martyrs edged them out in the semifinals with a 1-0 aggregate score, thanks to Viola Namuddu’s goal in the first leg.
Despite being five-time league champions, Kawempe Muslim aims to break this jinx in the next edition of the FUFA Women’s Cup to complete their trophy cabinet. Meanwhile, Byafaayo Queens will face Wakiso Hill in the quarterfinals on Sunday, June 2nd, at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
Kawempe Muslim’s FUFA Women’s Cup History:
