Lyca Mobile Data Price Increase

Lyca Mobile has announced adjustments in the pricing of its voice, SMS, and data bundles, sparking concerns among customers who viewed it as a less affordable option. However, the company has introduced changes that could benefit heavy data consumers by offering bonuses to those who reload before their current bundle expires.

The adjustments, which include a new product portfolio comprising Voice Bundles, Data Bundles, Combo Bundles, and SMS Bundles with daily, weekly, and monthly validity options, were launched recently in Uganda. Customers, both existing and new, can access these bundles, which come with bonuses upon repeat recharges.

These changes were implemented on the day the announcement was made and can be renewed by dialing *100#. Customers have the flexibility to purchase these bundles using either MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money.

Responses to the changes have been mixed, with some users expressing surprise and dissatisfaction. One user shared their surprise at a payment kiosk, almost confronting the staff due to the unexpected price adjustments. Others criticized Lyca Mobile for perceived shortcomings in service delivery and accessibility.

Despite the adjustments, data bundles in Uganda remain relatively expensive compared to neighboring countries in the region.
