Nyege Nyege Festival Gears Up for 9th Edition in Uganda

Preparations are underway for the highly anticipated 9th edition of the renowned Nyege Nyege music and arts festival.

Scheduled to take place from November 14th to 17th, 2024, at the Source of the Nile in Jinja, Uganda, this year’s festival promises to be an exhilarating celebration of Pan-African diversity under the theme ‘Afrogalactic Carnival’. The event aims to merge forward-thinking music with ancestral traditions, showcasing Uganda’s natural beauty and diverse cultural heritage.

Traditionally, the festival has been a platform for highlighting Uganda’s rich tapestry of traditional music, and this year will be no exception. Additionally, Nyege Nyege will shine a spotlight on the talents of refugee communities from across East Africa, including Sudanese, Congolese, Eritrean, Burundian, and Ethiopian artists.

Organizers are excited to welcome curated showcases from Sudan, South Africa, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of Congo, India, and Brazil, as well as all East African countries. Special partnerships with cultural organizations representing various regions of Uganda will further enhance the festival’s diverse lineup.

With a focus on safety and security, Nyege Nyege will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience for all attendees. Long-time sponsor Uganda Breweries will host three distinct experiences at the event, along with a 96-hour music and performance marathon at the new Hakuna Kulala stage.

This year, the festival will relocate to a brand-new site spanning twelve acres at the Source of the Nile in Jinja, offering amenities such as an aquapark, ample parking, and camping infrastructure. Partnerships with neighboring lands and Kingfisher Resort will provide convenient accommodation options for festival-goers.

Furthermore, Nyege Nyege is partnering with Platinum Tours and Travels to offer tourism packages, allowing attendees to explore Uganda’s natural wonders and cultural sites before and after the festival.

The festival’s lineup will be announced on July 1st, promising an exciting array of performers curated by guest curators from Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Previous editions have featured acclaimed artists such as Sho Madjozi, Eddy Kenzo, Aunty Rayzor, and DJ Kampire.

The announcement of the festival’s new dates coincided with the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo in Kampala, underscoring Nyege Nyege’s significance as Uganda’s premier tourism event.
