RwandAir Cargo Expands Reach with New Dubai and Djibouti Routes

RwandAir Cargo has announced the launch of new services to Dubai and Djibouti, utilizing its dedicated freighter B738SF for both routes. This expansion is part of RwandAir’s commitment to enhancing connectivity between Africa and the global market, as stated on June 10.

With these additions, RwandAir’s cargo network will encompass seven destinations, further bolstering their freighter operations across Africa and the Middle East.

Yvonne Makolo, CEO of RwandAir, emphasized the strategic significance of these new routes: “These additional destinations will facilitate efficient and reliable business connections, fostering increased trade opportunities between Rwanda, the UAE, Djibouti, and the wider continent.”

Recognizing Rwanda’s landlocked position, Makolo highlighted the crucial role of air freight in driving economic growth not only within Africa but also beyond its borders.

“Our central location in Africa positions us to link every corner of the continent, and we look forward to expanding our reach even further,” she added.

The introduction of Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) as a new cargo destination marks RwandAir’s second entry point in the UAE, complementing its existing service in Sharjah. The inaugural flight departed from Kigali recently.

RwandAir Cargo will commence dedicated freighter services to Djibouti, connecting via Dubai World Central and Sharjah starting June 17, 2024. Flights will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Bosco Gakwaya, Director of RwandAir Cargo Services, affirmed that the expansion into Dubai and Djibouti underscores RwandAir Cargo’s pivotal role in facilitating trade across Africa, aligning with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and positioning Kigali as a regional cargo hub.

RwandAir plays a critical role in Rwanda’s economy by facilitating the transportation of perishables, medical supplies, and other essential goods, supporting the country’s diverse and expanding economy. These new destinations will extend their market coverage and enable them to serve a broader range of businesses and consumers.
