Sources and first responders report that a distressing day for Allan Okello, the manager of the Oil Energy fuel station branch in Mubende, culminated in a tragic incident on Monday evening.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the fuel pump located in Kisekende Ward.
Residents reported hearing a gunshot from the office at the petrol station and rushed to the scene, where they found Okello dead, with blood trickling from his wounds.
“I was working in a garage when I heard a gunshot at the petrol station. When I arrived, I found the manager already dead inside the store,” said Gift Ssemwogerere, one of the first responders.
Those familiar with the deceased mentioned he had a debt of Shs4 million, which they believe might have driven him to the suspected suicide.
“We heard rumors that the manager had a shortage of Shs4 million, and he was not in his usual mood the whole day,” said an acquaintance identified only as Ssebulime.
Moses Twijusha, the chairperson of Kisekende Village, expressed his disappointment over the tragic decision, emphasizing that the deceased had never reached out to local leaders for help.
“Despite his time here, he never reported himself to the village leadership or his workers. We, as the LC, tried to invite him, but he refused,” Twijusha said.
He urged landlords to register their tenants with village leadership to ensure they receive attention and support when needed.
Police from Mubende station recovered the weapon suspected to have been used by Okello. His body was taken to Mubende Hospital for a postmortem examination.
As of press time, police had not released a preliminary report or statement about the incident.
