UBTEB, the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board, has launched its second tracer study aimed at evaluating the outcomes of alumni from business-related programs completed between 2016 and 2019.
This study targets graduates of programs such as National Diploma in Secretarial and Information Science, National Diploma in Business Studies, and Diploma in Hotel and Institutional Catering.
Dr. Nahamya Wilfred, Deputy Executive Secretary of UBTEB, emphasized the study’s focus on alumni employment status, time taken to enter the job market post-graduation, and the alignment of curriculum with industry demands.
He stressed the importance of alumni participation in providing feedback to improve educational quality in the sector.
Earlier findings from UBTEB’s initial tracer study on engineering graduates revealed that UBTEB alumni are highly skilled and practical-oriented, making them attractive to employers for their readiness in practical tasks.
However, concerns were raised regarding the adequacy of industrial training, with alumni expressing dissatisfaction over its short duration and limited skills acquisition.
These insights highlight areas where UBTEB aims to enhance technical and vocational education to better prepare graduates for the workforce.
The tracer studies serve as crucial tools for UBTEB to continually refine its curriculum, ensuring graduates possess the skills needed by employers and can contribute effectively to Uganda’s economic growth.
