In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Dr. Adamu Babaji, Head of the Psychiatric department at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH), Bauchi, highlighted the significance of antenatal care attendance and psycho-social support in mitigating the prevalence of mental health issues among women.

Dr. Babaji emphasized the critical role of antenatal clinics in providing essential support and monitoring throughout pregnancy and post-delivery. He underscored the impact of delayed or prolonged labor and malnutrition on postpartum depression, urging for greater awareness and support from spouses and families.

Furthermore, Dr. Babaji discussed the correlation between severe malnutrition in children and intellectual disability, citing pneumonia, malaria, urinary tract infections, and convulsions as potential contributors to developmental challenges in early childhood.
