In a significant leap towards modernization and efficiency, the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has launched a comprehensive service portal aimed at transforming how printing, publishing, and gazetting services are accessed and utilized across Uganda. The initiative, unveiled by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, marks a pivotal moment in UPPC’s digital transformation journey and underscores its commitment to enhancing service delivery through technology.
The UPPC Service Portal, introduced during a stakeholder engagement event at Hotel Africana, promises a streamlined experience for users seeking a wide array of services and publications. Previously limited to traditional hardcopy formats, one of the standout features of the portal is the introduction of the E-Gazette. This digital platform allows for the electronic submission of documents, revolutionizing the accessibility and speed of the gazetting process. According to Professor Sudi Nangoli, Managing Director of UPPC, this digital shift not only enhances convenience but also drastically reduces the time required for submission and publication.
“With the launch of our online service portal, accessing the Uganda Gazette and other publications is now as easy as a few clicks,” Professor Sudi remarked, highlighting the portal’s capability to facilitate document submission in under five minutes. Moreover, the online availability of the Uganda Gazette comes at a reduced cost of Shs 3,000 compared to the previous hardcopy price of Shs 5,000, making it more accessible to a wider audience.
Further bolstering UPPC’s digital footprint is the introduction of an Online Bookshop, designed to make a vast collection of publications readily accessible to the public. This initiative not only enhances convenience but also aligns with UPPC’s goal of global outreach and service excellence through technology.
Prime Minister Nabbanja emphasized the importance of these advancements in enhancing business operations within Uganda, emphasizing that technological investments in UPPC have significantly improved efficiency and responsiveness to client needs. “By modernizing our printing capabilities and keeping jobs within the country, we are not only promoting economic resilience but also contributing to national self-reliance,” she stated.
Milly Babalanda, Minister for Presidency, highlighted strategic partnerships with international entities like the German consortium Veridos and collaboration with the Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) to enhance the security and quality of printed documents such as passports and driving permits. These collaborations are poised to reduce Uganda’s dependence on foreign printing services, thereby conserving foreign exchange reserves and stimulating local economic growth.
As UPPC continues to expand its capabilities and service offerings, it aims to position itself as a cornerstone of Uganda’s printing and publishing industry, serving government agencies and the public alike with efficiency, security, and quality. With the launch of the UPPC Service Portal, the future of printing and publishing in Uganda is not only digital but also promising in its potential to drive economic growth and innovation.
In conclusion, the inauguration of the UPPC Service Portal signifies a transformative moment for Uganda’s printing and publishing landscape, heralding a new era of accessibility, efficiency, and sustainability in government and public services.
