Vipers SC’s Summer Overhaul Faces Coaching Conundrum

Vipers SC plans to clear out over ten players after a disappointing, trophyless season.

Despite finishing third, just one point behind SC Villa, their performance was lackluster.

The club’s leadership, led by Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, must make critical decisions to compete next season.

Every position, from goalkeeping to striking, is under review, starting with the head coach.

Richard Wasswa, the interim head coach, struggled to control the dressing room, making his retention unlikely.

In goal, Vipers must decide between foreign goalkeepers Fabien Mutombora and Alfred Mudekereza. Mutombora fell out with the staff and refused to play unless starting.

Youngsters Jack Komakech and Derrick Kiggundu might replace one or both foreign goalkeepers.

Defensively, Vipers might release up to five players: Ashraf Mandela, Richard Matovu, Isa Mubiru, Murushid Jjuuko, and Livingstone Mulondo. Mulondo, however, showed resilience when selected.

In midfield, veterans Siraje Sentamu and Moses Waiswa, limited in appearances, might be offloaded, along with Nigerian Abubaker Lawal.

Frank Katongole, returning from injury, and Marvin Youngman could take over, supported by Bright Anukani and Karim Watambala.

On the wings, the club might let go of Martin Kiiza and Captain Milton Karisa, despite their nine goals last season.

Yunus Sentamu, previously influential, underperformed and could be released to make room for rising stars like Fazil Tumwine.

Mauritanian Ekbad Salem and Eric Kambale, seldom used and lacking confidence, also face uncertain futures.

Without competing in Caf competitions, Vipers have funds available for transfers but must first resolve the coaching staff dilemma.
